Since Tibet is under the authority of China, tourists will need to obtain a Chinese Visa as their first document to enter Tibet. Tourists can apply for it at a Chinese Embassy in their home countries, overseas or in Hong Kong.
Chinese Visa is required to be obtained prior to the application of any other document. Without the Chinese Visa, granting of Tibet Travel Permit is out of question.
After submitting all the legal necessary documents, it normally takes three working days to get the Tibet Travel Permit (TTP)
Necessary documents include a legal photocopy of Passport’s first page and a photocopy of the legal Chinese Visa at least 20 days before you start your trip.
If you work or live in China or visit China for business purposes, you will need to provide a certificate to prove your purpose for visiting China. Sample of Certificate Paper: We herewith confirm Mr. *****, Passport No, is working at *** company since****** [joining date] and your present position at company. Include company’s name, stream, and signature.
Once the Tibet Travel Permit is issued, the travel agency will send it to your departing city in China. Thus, you’ll need to provide us your hotel’s address and phone number in that city within 15 days before arriving in China.
If you are coming through Nepal, you’ll first need to get in contact with our partner travel office in Nepal or any other travel agency you choose. Nepal tourists are required to get a Group Visa before entering Tibet. After that, our tour guide will greet you at the Nepal border with your Tibet Travel Permit.
